This capstone unit focuses on IV therapy considerations for pediatric, geriatric, and homebound patients while consolidating essential knowledge and practical tips for successful venous access. It builds on foundational units to prepare students for supervised clinical practice and competency assessment through case-based and simulation activities.

- Analyze physiological and developmental differences in infants, children, and older adults and select appropriate catheter types, access sites, and infusion parameters in case-based scenarios.
- Apply evidence-based protocols and safety practices to design individualized IV maintenance and complication-prevention plans for homebound patients, including caregiver education and equipment needs.
- Demonstrate advanced IV insertion, stabilization, and troubleshooting techniques—including at least ten practical ‘tricks of the trade’—using simulation to achieve established competency benchmarks.
