Sustainable Wardrobe Care and Curation

This unit teaches students practical skills and decision-making for extending the life of clothing and footwear, making intentional purchase and resale choices, and integrating sustainability into personal style. Students will practice fabric and stain care, basic repairs, thrifting and resale techniques, and strategies for building capsule wardrobes and outfit formulas to reduce consumption.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze fiber content labels and fabric properties to develop appropriate cleaning, stain-removal, and storage plans for at least five common garment types
• Apply basic repair and maintenance techniques—including hand-stitching, leather and sneaker care, and small-item mending—to restore functionality and appearance of at least three garments or pairs of shoes
• Demonstrate sustainable shopping and resale practices by preparing for and conducting a thrift-store visit, selecting quality secondhand items, and pricing and listing at least three pieces for resale
• Evaluate fashion trends, sustainable fabric options, and outfit-formula strategies to design a functional capsule wardrobe that addresses personal style, special-occasion needs, and reduced environmental impact
