Governance and Future of Citizen Automation

This unit synthesizes prior technical and design work to focus on safe, effective deployment of citizen development—low-code/no-code and generative AI—within organizations, including regulated environments. Students learn to balance innovation with governance, assess risks and rewards, and develop management strategies for sustainable citizen automation.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze organizational risks, compliance requirements, and ethical considerations associated with citizen development and generative AI solutions in regulated and nonregulated business contexts
• Apply governance frameworks and safety best practices to design a low-code/no-code project workflow that mitigates security, privacy, and operational risks
• Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and select low-code/no-code and generative AI tools by producing a project plan or assessment rubric that addresses scalability, maintainability, and responsible use
• Evaluate management and change-management strategies for integrating citizen automation into existing IT structures, including role definition, documentation standards, and oversight mechanisms
