This unit synthesizes previous work on scheduling, customer service, and operations to focus on effective start-of-shift procedures, punctuality, and handoffs. Students practice timekeeping, communication, and basic schedule adjustments through scenario-based activities that prepare them for workplace shift management.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze causes and operational impacts of early arrivals, tardiness, and missed shifts using case scenarios
- Apply timekeeping, attendance, and opening procedures to create a compliant start-of-shift checklist for a simulated team
- Demonstrate clear verbal and written communication during shift handoffs in role-play scenarios using workplace documentation standards
- Evaluate a weekly shift schedule’s efficiency by identifying coverage gaps and proposing at least two data-driven adjustments to reduce labor cost or improve coverage
