Web Development, Deployment, and Iteration

This unit guides students through building, testing, deploying, and improving a simple web application and supporting utilities (e.g., a Ruby text formatter). Students will apply string manipulation, HTML/form construction, debugging strategies, and developer resources to ship a working product, collect user feedback, and iterate based on results while communicating their process and outcomes.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze problem requirements and design step-by-step solutions that separate logic from presentation, selecting appropriate string operations and control flow to transform user input into desired output.
• Apply HTML and form-building skills to construct a basic, accessible website that collects input and displays formatted results, demonstrating separation of concerns between markup and application logic.
• Demonstrate development workflow skills by implementing a simple Ruby text formatter and web app, using search and debugging strategies to identify and fix bugs, and deploying a functional version for users.
• Evaluate user feedback and testing results to iterate on code, track changes, and communicate successes and failures with peers, producing documented improvements and reflected lessons learned.
