This unit develops practical skills for building, inspecting, and debugging both client-side interfaces and server-side services. Students will work with HTML/CSS/JavaScript, developer tools, PHP/MySQL, form handling, asynchronous data retrieval, and basic accessibility and security practices to prepare for more advanced backend integration and deployment in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze client-server interactions by using browser developer tools, inspecting DOM elements, tracing Fetch API requests, and interpreting JSON responses to diagnose communication and data flow issues.
- Apply server-side development techniques to create and manipulate MySQL databases and tables and implement PHP scripts that perform CRUD operations using phpMyAdmin and a local development environment (e.g., XAMPP).
- Demonstrate the ability to build responsive, accessible web interfaces by implementing semantic HTML, CSS Grid/fluid layouts, and HTML forms with appropriate client- and server-side validation.
- Evaluate and debug web applications by using console and error logs, validating inputs (including regular expressions), and applying basic security best practices to mitigate common vulnerabilities.
