This unit introduces students to building modern web pages by combining HTML5, CSS, JavaScript (including jQuery), PHP, and basic MySQL concepts. Students will create static pages, add client-side interactivity, explore server-side scripting fundamentals, and learn how databases support dynamic content to prepare for deeper application development and deployment in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- Create and style a standards-compliant HTML5 web page with forms, images, and responsive CSS rules to meet specified design and accessibility requirements
- Apply JavaScript and jQuery to manipulate the Document Object Model (DOM) and implement event-driven interactivity and basic client-side validation
- Demonstrate basic PHP programming by writing scripts that use control structures, functions or libraries, and connect to a MySQL database to perform simple data storage and retrieval
- Analyze common security vulnerabilities and best practices in PHP/MySQL applications and use MySQL administration tools to create, manage, and query relational data supporting dynamic web pages
