This unit introduces core Python programming concepts and tools used in networking, data processing, and physical computing. Students will learn interactive and script-based workflows, fundamental data structures and control flow, object-oriented design, file and data formats, basic AI concepts, and hardware interfaces to prepare for applied projects in later units.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze Python versions, interpreter modes, and the language’s role in networking and IT contexts to justify environment and tooling choices for small projects
- Demonstrate fundamental programming skills by writing and debugging Python scripts that use operators, functions, lists, dictionaries, classes, exceptions, and file I/O (text, binary, JSON)
- Apply modular and object-oriented design practices, including folder organization, typed comments, and reusable classes, to build maintainable code for Raspberry Pi and robotics interfaces
- Evaluate and employ Python libraries and techniques (standard library, NumPy, pandas, Matplotlib) and basic AI and hardware concepts (I2C, Grove, PiCar-B) to preprocess data, visualize results, and design simple physical computing interactions
