This capstone unit integrates advanced ACT content review, timed writing practice, test-taking strategies, and college-readiness planning. Students synthesize math, reading, science, and writing skills while practicing editing, formula recall, and logistical planning needed for improved ACT performance and postsecondary exploration.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze ACT-style mathematics problems involving coordinate geometry, algebraic manipulation, elementary trigonometry, matrices, sequences, probability, permutations/combinations, percent change, and measures of central tendency, and demonstrate correct application of formulas to produce accurate solutions.
- Apply essay organization and conventions to plan, draft, and revise timed ACT essays using a clear thesis, structured body paragraphs (Hamburger method), and evidence-based reasoning, and use editing strategies to improve grammar, mechanics, and clarity.
- Demonstrate critical reading and science-reasoning strategies by interpreting passages and data representations, evaluating arguments, and answering multiple-choice questions under timed conditions with justification for chosen answers.
- Evaluate test preparation and college-readiness choices by comparing ACT and SAT formats, designing a retake and memorization plan for formulas, and preparing an actionable test-day timeline and college-exploration checklist.
