This unit builds foundational ACT reading, writing, and mathematics skills needed for subsequent test-focused units. Students will practice punctuation and grammar, apply core math procedures and geometry concepts, learn reading-test strategies, and produce and evaluate timed essays and practice tests.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze written work for production errors and apply standard grammar and punctuation rules to revise sentences and short passages.
- Apply arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric procedures to solve ACT-style problems involving fractions, decimals, percents, roots, basic complex-number ideas, angles, and triangle relationships.
- Demonstrate effective reading-test strategies by classifying passage formats, identifying question types, and interpreting tables, graphs, and diagrams to answer evidence-based questions.
- Evaluate ACT essay prompts and scoring criteria, produce a timed thesis-driven essay, and revise written responses using feedback to improve organization, clarity, and mechanics.
