Component & Node.js Fundamentals

This unit advances students from basic JavaScript to building interactive component-driven front ends and server-side functionality with Node.js. Students will work with Svelte/Vue component lifecycles, reactive data, form/event binding, and front-end behavior while implementing Node.js core modules, streams, file I/O, Express routes and middleware, and basic MongoDB interactions.

Learning Objectives

• Demonstrate component-based UI development by applying lifecycle hooks, directives, reactive state (ref()), event and form binding, conditional rendering, loops, styling, and transitions in Svelte and Vue components
• Apply Node.js core modules to implement server-side features by creating and managing buffers, writable and duplex streams, file read/write operations, listeners, and error/exception handling
• Develop and test server endpoints by building Express middleware and routes, interacting with MongoDB via mongosh (or driver), and writing unit tests and dev scripts to validate functionality
• Evaluate and apply professional development workflows by using Git responsibly, configuring editor tooling (Svelte for VS Code), and integrating testing and scripting into a reproducible development process
