Foundations of Job Search Success

This unit introduces self-assessment, professional mindset, and the essential tools of job search: crafting targeted CVs/resumés, selecting formats and keywords, and preparing for interviews. Students build confidence, practice concise personal introductions, and learn sending and follow-up strategies that prepare them for advanced interviewing and presentation units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze personal attitudes, strengths, interests, and career goals by completing self-assessment activities and producing a one-page career objectives summary
• Apply résumé/CV best practices by choosing an appropriate format, integrating StandOut words and keywords, tailoring content to a specific position, and producing a concise, employer-focused CV
• Demonstrate foundational interview skills by developing a structured 60-second introduction, preparing behavior-based and hypothetical responses, crafting employer-focused questions, and exhibiting professional body language in a mock interview
• Evaluate job-search and submission strategies by comparing at least three methods for sending and marketing a CV, prioritizing employer fit, and producing a 4-week outreach and follow-up action plan
