Finalizing and Submitting Applications

This unit builds on earlier resume-building lessons to prepare students for real-world submission and follow-up of job applications. Students will learn targeted delivery strategies, advanced proofreading and editing, how to handle red flags and omissions ethically, and how to evaluate job-search tools and services.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze job postings and company websites to tailor resume content, identify hiring managers, and select the most appropriate document format and delivery method
• Apply advanced proofreading and editing techniques to eliminate spelling, grammar, formatting errors, and inappropriate content, producing error-free final resumes and cover letters
• Demonstrate effective submission and outreach strategies, including targeted direct approaches, leveraging inside advocates, choosing specialist vs. generalist positioning, and avoiding resume blasting
• Evaluate job-search tools and services (job boards, social media, paid resume services) and assess red-flag circumstances to make informed, ethical decisions about pricing, omissions, and follow-up persistence
