Java Control Structures and Tools

This unit expands students’ Java skills by deepening understanding of methods, control flow (conditionals and loops), and array troubleshooting while introducing input/output and UI APIs. It also covers core utility classes, interactive REPL use, and career/next-step guidance to prepare students for continued learning and entry-level development work.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze Java control flow and array behavior to identify and correct common logical and runtime errors using methods, conditional operators, and loops
• Apply Java input/output and UI APIs (Scanner, System, JOptionPane, JFrame) and utility classes (String, Math, NumberFormat) to implement and format program I/O
• Demonstrate the use of interactive tools and workflows such as JShell to test, inspect, and iterate on code snippets for faster debugging and development
• Evaluate personal learning pathways and career preparation strategies by articulating next-step technical skills, portfolio artifacts, and job-search approaches for software development
