NCLEX-RN Strategies and Readiness

This capstone unit strengthens students’ NCLEX‑RN test-taking skills, clinical decision-making, and professional readiness through focused practice on prioritized actions, common question pitfalls, safety protocols, therapeutic communication, and nonpharmacologic care. Students will synthesize prior clinical knowledge into exam strategies, a personalized study and test-day plan, and measurable skill demonstrations to support licensure success.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze NCLEX‑style multiple‑choice and alternate‑format questions to identify distractors, question stems, and best‑response strategies (including avoidance of absolutes and selection patterns) with 80% accuracy on formative assessments
• Apply clinical decision‑making frameworks to prioritize nursing actions and interventions in simulated patient scenarios (e.g., code pink, mobility assistance, pain management, wound irrigations) and justify choices using evidence‑based rationale
• Demonstrate therapeutic communication, patient education, and holistic care techniques (including nonpharmacologic pain reduction and complementary therapies) during simulated clinical interactions with appropriate documentation
• Evaluate personal licensure readiness by creating a time‑bound study and test‑day plan that incorporates retake policies, scheduling constraints, stress‑management strategies, and identified strengths/weaknesses for targeted review
