Operationalizing DevOps Practices

This capstone unit synthesizes technical and human-centered DevOps practices to prepare students to design, implement, and govern production-ready systems. Students will focus on safe deployments, automation of testing and monitoring, tool and cloud-service selection, and cultural practices that enable continuous improvement and resilient operations.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze architecture and deployment anti-patterns and trade-offs to recommend appropriate languages, deployment styles, and cloud services for a given application scenario
• Apply continuous integration, continuous testing, automation, and monitoring techniques to design an end-to-end pipeline that reduces manual toil, measures reliability, and accelerates delivery
• Demonstrate strategies to foster a DevOps culture by democratizing deployments, bridging development-operations gaps, enabling safe experimentation, and instituting feedback loops for continuous improvement
• Evaluate human and organizational risks (e.g., micromanagement, rapid change, poor hiring/termination practices) and develop governance, training, and tool-selection plans that mitigate risk and support scalable, resilient operations
