POST Exam Skills and Preparation

This unit develops core test-taking, math, written-communication, and readiness skills needed for the Texas Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) entry exams. Students practice percentages, averages, reading comprehension, spelling, incident report writing, essay construction, observation/memory tasks, and prepare personal history, physical conditioning, and psychological evaluation readiness to bridge foundational knowledge and advanced application in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and solve POST-style quantitative problems involving percentages and averages, demonstrating at least 80% accuracy across timed practice sets.
• Apply written-communication conventions to compose and revise incident reports and scored essays that meet established POST rubric criteria in multiple practice submissions.
• Demonstrate effective test-taking strategies for reading comprehension, spelling, observation/memory, and timed written sections by improving accuracy and completion rate across successive practice exams.
• Evaluate personal readiness by completing a personal history statement, designing a physical conditioning plan aligned with POST physical challenges, and outlining steps to prepare for the psychological evaluation and written test process.
