Pre-Service Skills and Screening

This unit consolidates practical pre-service competencies, screening readiness, and professional behaviors required for entry-level police officers. Students will practice physical, firearms, vehicle, and test-taking skills while preparing for medical/psychological evaluations, interviews, ethics expectations, and the field training program.

Learning Objectives

• Demonstrate proficiency in safety and performance standards for firearms handling, emergency vehicle operations, and physical ability test (PAT) tasks according to recruit guidelines
• Apply test-taking strategies, time-management, and problem-solving techniques to accurately complete practice math items, multiple-choice exams, and answer-marking protocols
• Analyze personal readiness for selection processes by interpreting medical and psychological evaluation requirements, oral board expectations, and procedures for appeal or reapplication after elimination
• Evaluate and model professional behaviors—including ethics, academic integrity, human relations, communication, and language accommodations—during interviews and field training interactions
