Professional Composition and Production Practices

This culminating unit integrates advanced composition, arranging, production, and industry-facing skills. Students synthesize orchestration, media scoring, collaboration, copyright, and release strategies to produce market-ready works, pitch to industry outlets, and prepare for further study or career pathways.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze orchestration, arranging, and harmonic decisions to adapt original compositions for orchestras, ensembles, and media contexts, producing written scores or mockups that demonstrate those adaptations
• Apply production, mixing, and release workflows to create a market-ready demo and accompanying release package, including final masters, metadata, and distribution plans for at least one composition
• Demonstrate professional and legal practices by completing copyright/registration steps, preparing pitch materials (EPK/demo reel), and submitting works to at least one platform, agency, or licensing outlet
• Evaluate collaborative and instructional strategies by designing and documenting a team-based composing project and a brief lesson plan for teaching a composition exercise, then reflecting on peer feedback
