Python Foundations for AI/IoT

This unit expands foundational Python skills and applies them to data, machine learning, and hardware projects. Students will master core language constructs, coding best practices, data persistence and packaging, and begin integrating Python with Raspberry Pi hardware and basic AI workflows to prepare for more advanced projects.

Learning Objectives

• Apply control flow, loops, and core Python data structures (tuples, lists, sets, dictionaries) to develop programs that process, format, and iterate over data sets.
• Demonstrate the ability to create, document, and test reusable code by building functions and classes, adding meaningful comments, and using editing and debugging techniques to handle errors gracefully.
• Implement persistent data techniques by performing file I/O, serialization, and package management to prepare and manage datasets for basic machine learning and data science tasks.
• Integrate Python with hardware and AI by assembling and programming a Raspberry Pi–based device, configuring sensors and actuators (Grove connectors, oxygen/flame sensors, DC motor), deploying simple neural-network models, and using cloud tools such as Google Cloud/BigQuery for data handling.
