Site Construction and Renovation Management

This unit equips students with practical site-level skills and management strategies needed for self-build and renovation projects, covering site preparation, structural assemblies, building services, energy upgrades, and compliance. Learners will evaluate construction methods and materials, execute safe on-site operations, and manage procurement, contracts, budgets, and schedules to move projects from design toward final delivery.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze planning, permitting, and building regulation requirements to produce a compliant renovation or self-build plan
• Evaluate and compare construction methods, materials, and building systems (foundations, walls, roofs, insulation, heating, ventilation, and services) for cost, performance, and sustainability
• Apply safe site operations and technical procedures for excavations, foundations, temporary works, demolition, and installation activities using appropriate tools and plant
• Demonstrate project procurement and management skills by obtaining estimates, arranging and finalizing contracts, and developing budgets and schedules that mitigate risk and protect the owner
