Interview Communication & Strategy

This unit develops concise messaging, nonverbal skills, and targeted response strategies for job interviews. Students practice and refine elevator pitches, key speaking points, and the Big Interview 3-Part Model while learning to avoid common mistakes and manage special challenges.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the interview and hiring cycle to identify at least four key touchpoints where tailored messaging and follow-up influence candidate success
• Apply a targeted strategy to craft and deliver a concise 30–60 second elevator pitch plus three supporting speaking points aligned to a specific job posting
• Demonstrate effective verbal and nonverbal communication—including conveying enthusiasm, maintaining appropriate eye contact and posture, and eliminating negative self-talk—across at least three simulated interview scenarios
• Evaluate and correct common interviewing mistakes and special challenges (e.g., employment gaps, reluctance to self-promote, and discussing previous employers) using the Big Interview 3-Part Model and iterative practice feedback
